Frédérick Ouellet
A self-taught painter, Frédérick Ouellet has been a chief painter for some ten years in the field of theater and stage. The staggering number of exhibitions, paintings, commissions and (often gigantic) stage sets he has produced make him a creator out of the ordinary. Imaginative and skilful, he creates objects and principles on canvas that verge on scientific invention.
Inspiring nostalgia for a bygone era, his often complex compositions and surrealist stagings allow us to see and understand on several levels. He paints the object, transforms it and deliberately distorts it to give it another meaning. Timeless archives, romantic mysticism and the metaphorical possibilities of art are at the heart of his research.
