Tamy Emma Pepin

Tamy is a researcher and conceptual artist as well as the founder and CEO of UPPL, a creativity and communications firm established in Montreal in 2016.

UPPL works at the crossroads of digital universes and physical space. The company focuses on the creation and dissemination of content, products and experiences that touch the heart and emotions of the public. UPPL brings together artists, scientists, designers and strategists with expertise in narrative design, business strategy, brand identity, visual arts, web development, advertising, management and marketing.

Tamy holds an Arts degree from McGill University. She is interested in the natural world, sculpture, building and the legacy of Quebec artists, particularly their influence abroad.

Armand Vaillancourt
I chose Armand Vaillancourt's La Force for its structure, form, materials, location and the feelings the work generates in me. The force of movement, the natural laws captured in the sculpture... it feels organic, alive. Mount Royal is a very special place for me. It expresses what is most beautiful and harmonious in Montreal in terms of design.
Robert Roussil
I chose this work to celebrate Robert Roussil. We owe Montreal's Place des Arts to this artist. Robert Roussil thought against the status quo of his time. I identify with independent thinkers and daring artists. Roussil eventually left Quebec and lived in the countryside of southern France, with nature, his friends and his art. These are more difficult paths in life, but they inspire me. Among the Art Public works, I selected Hommage à René Lévesque, for its magnetic character. The physical aspect of the work is powerful. The waves, materialized in concrete, seem to interact with a quantum field.
Barbara Hepworth
There's a powerful calm in Barbara Hepworth's work. As a conceptual artist and strategist, I'm challenged by abstract art - how to communicate very abstract ideas, giving them structure, form or shape. When you look back over Barbara Hepworth's career, you see the talent and technique of a master, but also a very intimate relationship with the immaterial world.
Jacques Huet
I love the artist's message, which invites us to walk in solitude to reveal the true face of the automaton. The automaton being defined as the machine, the robot, or... 'the person who acts like a machine, unconsciously, under the impulse of an external force'. I see solitude as a deep learning tool, a necessary stepping stone from mechanical thinking to metaphysical, holistic knowledge. These are practices that deserve to be explored in the age of artificial intelligence. The integration of the arts with architecture and the environment is also worthy of note.
Geneviève Cadieux
Between sky and building, a luminous murmur. I love this work by Geneviève Cadieux on the roof of the MAC. Art in the place of billboards feeds the imagination, offers mental space to the city-dweller. It's radical in urban space.
