Anne-Claude Bacon

Anne-Claude Bacon holds a master’s in art history as well as a master’s in museology from the Université de Montréal. She directed the Fonds Jacob-William (TOHU) prior to becoming responsible for the Hydro-Québec collection in 2004. President of Éditions esse, she is also a member of the Board of Directors of the centre OPTICA and sits on the programming committee of the Giverny Foundation for Contemporary Art.

Jean-Paul Mousseau
"This choice seems obvious: the piece is part of Hydro-Québec’s collection. This back-lit mural by Mousseau is one of the most iconic: it symbolizes the modernization of Québec at the start of the Quiet Revolution. It reconciles art with new technologies, while marking the official acceptance of artistic modernity by the Jean Lesage government. And also, when night falls—it’s sensational!"
Geneviève Cadieux
"Why do I love this piece? Because it shows us lipsticked AND aging lips—you can’t look away. It makes me feel good, since it is the opposite of the hypersexualized images of women that assail us in the media. Just slightly open, the mouth seems to be monumental and intimate at the same time. Intriguing, too. What could it whisper to us?"
Michel De Broin
"Michel de Broin’s piece is playful and conceptually rich: it refers as much to Montréal’s winding staircases as to the amusement park rides at La Ronde. The staircase turned into itself is a call to infinite repetition or permanent revolution (depending on your point of view!). I’m very enchanted."
Les Industries perdues
"From the time I moved to Montréal, I was intrigued by this poem by Gérald Godin, displayed across a triplex wall. I reread it every time my bus stops at the Mont-Royal métro station, and I am always moved. Its altruism, its openness, they always bring me to the words of writer/theologian Marion Muller-Colard, who invites us to take the risk of touching and of letting ourselves be touched. Now more than ever."
Linda Covit
"I haven’t had the chance of seeing this artwork in person. I selected it because it makes me want to go to the shores of Lac Saint-Louis, and sit for a long time on the bench to contemplate the horizon segmented by its columns. I think it is wonderful how a natural space can be so enhanced by an artistic gesture that is, after all, quite modest."
