Dame Nature
2019
Sophie Wilkins

Originally from Sainte-Barbe, Quebec, Sophie Wilkins is an artist active on both the Montreal and international art scenes. She has been fully dedicated to her artistic practice since 2003.

Passionate about drawing since childhood, she now works with various mediums such as acrylic, oil, and charcoal powder. While she primarily focuses on canvas paintings, she also creates murals and produces custom artworks for film sets.

Since 2004, she has participated in numerous art festivals and exhibited in various galleries across Quebec. Since 2017, she has been represented by DS Agency (Stéphanie Dendura) in Paris. Her work can be found mainly in Bartoux Galleries across Europe and occasionally in group exhibitions in Quebec and the United States.

Her art brings to life a parallel world that dances in her mind and reflects her personal reflections on life. Through a whimsical universe, she blends peaceful warrior women—symbolizing Mother Nature—with animals, most of them endangered species, to raise awareness about the beauty of nature and the importance of our actions to protect it. Sophie is especially known for her meticulous attention to detail and her metaphorical interpretation of objects.

Artwork description

Created in 2019 with nature as its central theme, this mural is part of an awareness initiative highlighting the vital role bees play in our ecosystem. Inspired by the installation of two beehives on Promenade Masson, the artwork emphasizes the importance of these essential pollinators.

Honeycomb patterns and the queen bee—depicted on the arm of the central figure—are strong symbols that evoke both the richness and fragility of the beekeeping world.

This creation aligns perfectly with Promenade Masson’s broader efforts around this theme, which include the installation of hives, ground murals, educational workshops, informational signage, and other socially engaged murals.
