Born in Sarrbrücken, Germany, illustrator Frédéric Back is renowned worldwide for his animated films. He has received numerous honours and prizes, including two Oscars: one in 1982 for Crac! and the second in 1987 for L’homme qui plantait des arbres (The Man who Planted Trees).

This painted glass mural is an homage to the history of music in Montréal, from the time of Jacques Cartier to the contemporary era. Numerous prominent historical figures are represented, such as Calixa Lavallée, Guillaume Couture, Alexis Contant, and Emma Lajeunesse (Dame Emma Albani).
