Alain Cadieux was born in Ville LaSalle. In the 1980s, he taught ceramics and was instrumental in creating a cultural centre as he was obtaining his master’s degree in visual arts at the Université du Québec à Montréal. Today, Cadieux is a set designer and the general director of Universcène in Montréal.

Situated in front of LaSalle Borough’s city hall on Rue Dupras, Table ronde is a sculptural grouping composed of a circular base on which sits a table surrounded by 12 black-and-white open grid structures, each formed of three vertical and seven horizontal elements. The number 12 refers to the municipality’s original 12 neighbourhoods, each of which was represented by a city councillor. The number also refers to the year that the Ville de LaSalle was created by the amalgamation of three parishes. The parishes are represented on three of the grids by a circle, by which the artist wanted to draw attention to a Roman cross. These three structures also represent, by combination of the circle and the cross, the symbol for “woman.”
