The National Bank, the Biblioth\u00e8que et Archives nationales du Qu\u00e9bec (BAnQ), the Caisse de d\u00e9p\u00f4t et placement du Qu\u00e9bec (CDP), the Centre hospitalier de l\u2019Universit\u00e9 de Montr\u00e9al (CHUM), McGill University Health Centre (MUHC), the \u00c9cole de technologie sup\u00e9rieure (\u00c9TS), Hydro-Qu\u00e9bec, Ivanho\u00e9 Cambridge, the Mus\u00e9e d\u2019art contemporain de Montr\u00e9al (MAC), the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts (MMFA), the Palais des congr\u00e8s de Montr\u00e9al, Place des Arts (PDA), the Soci\u00e9t\u00e9 de transport de Montr\u00e9al (STM), Concordia University, the Universit\u00e9 de Montr\u00e9al (UdeM), the Universit\u00e9 du Qu\u00e9bec \u00e0 Montr\u00e9al (UQ\u00c0M), McGill University and Ville de Montr\u00e9al (Public Art Bureau) have agreed to consolidate their public art holdings into a common online directory, thereby creating a searchable bank of 600 works of art.<\/p>\n<p>This rich collection, which can be viewed freely on the new Art public Montr\u00e9al website, features:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Presentation of the artworks<\/li>\n<li>Facts about the artists, including biographies and links to their websites<\/li>\n<li>Routes by theme and discovery centres<\/li>\n<li>News and anecdotal information about public art in Montr\u00e9al (permanent and temporary works)<\/li>\n<li>Advanced search options based on various criteria<\/li>\n<li>Chance to vote for your favourite work (popularity trends will be shown on the map)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>A unique collection<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>In this first phase, 18 prestigious partners will be providing online access to 600 works of public art in Montr\u00e9al. Eventually other art owners will join the partnership, expanding the total number of public works of art on the site to more than 1,000, which will enrich Montr\u00e9al\u2019s extensive collection. The outstanding work of 500 Quebec and international artists will be presented in all its diversity of practices, materials used and forms adopted. These artworks will be placed in their historical context, which falls within a broad range from the early 19th century to today.<\/p>\n<p>On hand to celebrate this initiative at the announcement of the Art public Montr\u00e9al partnership and launch of the website, which took place at the Centre CDP Capital, were Manon Gauthier, member of the executive committee of Ville de Montr\u00e9al, responsible for culture, heritage, design, Space for Life and the status of women; Pierre Bellerose, Vice-President, Public Relations, Research and Product Development at Tourisme Montr\u00e9al; and Nathalie Bondil, Director and Chief Curator of the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts, who represented the partners.<\/p>\n<p><strong>An innovative partnership<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Art public Montr\u00e9al is an initiative of Ville de Montr\u00e9al, in collaboration with Tourisme Montr\u00e9al and the Minist\u00e8re de la Culture et des Communications, as part of the Montr\u00e9al Cultural Tourism Development Plan under the Entente sur le d\u00e9veloppement culturel de Montr\u00e9al.
