{"id":60813,"date":"2016-10-03T12:55:03","date_gmt":"2016-10-03T16:55:03","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/artpublicmontreal.ca\/en\/?p=60813"},"modified":"2016-10-03T12:58:26","modified_gmt":"2016-10-03T16:58:26","slug":"the-stm-art-public-montreals-featured-partner-in-october","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/artpublicmontreal.ca\/en\/2016\/10\/the-stm-art-public-montreals-featured-partner-in-october\/","title":{"rendered":"The STM, Art public Montr\u00e9al\u2019s featured partner in October"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>In honour of the 50<sup>th<\/sup> anniversary of the Montr\u00e9al m\u00e9tro next October 14, Art public Montr\u00e9al has made Soci\u00e9t\u00e9 de transport de Montr\u00e9al (STM) its featured partner for the month.<\/p>\n<p>With nearly 90 artworks gracing some fifty stations, the Montr\u00e9al m\u00e9tro is considered one of the world\u2019s most beautiful transit systems, and rightly so. After Moscow and Stockholm, it too was at the forefront of integrating art and underground architecture, to such an extent that most m\u00e9tro systems now feature works of art.<\/p>\n<p>The Montr\u00e9al m\u00e9tro\u2019s impact on the status of public art in Qu\u00e9bec should not be overlooked. Long before the \u00abone percent rule\u00bb was enacted, the men and women in charge of building the m\u00e9tro insisted on including works of art in virtually every station, for the benefit of transit users who take some 900,000 rides per weekday and an overall 250\u00a0million rides per year.<\/p>\n<p>Today, STM is tasked with preserving, expanding and promoting this vast collection.
