Kaori Izumiya

Kaori Izumiya was born and raised in Japan and has been living abroad for the past few years and is currently residing in Quebec, Canada.

She studied oil painting at the Tokyo University of the Arts, and after graduating had some successful group and solo exhibitions in Tokyo and New Zealand, as well as a professional career in Animation and illustration. Kaori is a constantly evolving artist whose style is influenced by her life experiences, travels, and reflects the many diverse experiences she has encountered on her journey.

Her travels and the various places she has called home have left an indelible impression on her work, and since leaving Japan, she has pondered the significance of her cultural heritage and how it is perceived in different parts of the world.

Artwork description

This artwork transforms the pillars of the A40 into a true open-air art gallery in the heart of Montreal’s Saint-Michel neighborhood. Eight local muralists have created some twenty colorful murals on the highway’s columns, thereby kickstarting the area’s revitalization. This artistic gesture serves as a powerful visual landmark for the Circus art district and makes the space more welcoming for pedestrians and cyclists. An initiative by and for the community, designed primarily by local artists and intended for the residents of Saint-Michel.
