MALICIOUZ is an artist based in Montreal. A spiritual perspective serves as the starting point for her work. Her approach draws on her Haitian heritage and an ancestral legacy that she adapts to her current context. Drawing from Afro-diasporic, North American, and street cultures, she highlights elements that we often sanctify without realizing it, through monumental figures of the Black diaspora that she canonizes. Painting on canvas has been at the heart of her practice since 2011. She has also developed a mural art practice rooted in graffiti, begun in 2007, which influences her visual language and her relationship to public space. Her works are included in public and private collections in Canada, the United States, France, and Côte d’Ivoire. Her murals can be seen notably in Montreal, New York, Port-au-Prince, Jacmel, and Abidjan.

Artwork description
This artwork transforms the pillars of the A40 into a true open-air art gallery in the heart of Montreal’s Saint-Michel neighborhood. Eight local muralists have created some twenty colorful murals on the highway’s columns, thereby kickstarting the area’s revitalization. This artistic gesture serves as a powerful visual landmark for the Circus art district and makes the space more welcoming for pedestrians and cyclists. An initiative by and for the community, designed primarily by local artists and intended for the residents of Saint-Michel.
