Angie Warholl is a Canadian-Yugoslav artist based in Montreal. She draws inspiration from everyday life and translates it into a vibrant pop art and street art style. She has created a character that she often uses as a mascot, incorporating it into different worlds and scenarios. For “Nature and Wonder,” she went through her notebooks and drew inspiration from the Canadian wilderness she has observed throughout her life, weaving in our presence on this earth. She has created murals, graffiti, album covers, posters, fashion designs, and other mixed-media works. In her murals, she often inscribes the words “create” and “destroy,” as a philosophy inspired by yin and yang that invites people to reflect on these extremes and everything they have in common. She hopes to inspire and build a more colorful future, accessible to all.
Artwork description
This artwork transforms the pillars of Highway 40 into a true outdoor art gallery in the heart of the Saint-Michel neighbourhood. Nineteen Montreal muralists created more than 40 colourful murals on the highway’s columns, sparking the revitalization of the area. This artistic gesture marks a strong visual milestone for the Circus Arts District and makes the space more welcoming for pedestrians and cyclists. Adding to this initiative is a citizen participation project: colourful paste-up collages, created by and for the Saint-Michel community as well as local paste-up artists, further enrich the route.
