Artwork description

Artist Melissa Del Pinto’s “Ensemble” mural ties together themes of community and shared experiences among individuals.

The work seeks to symbolize the unity that is created when people work together, whether in raising children, defending their homes from floods, or offering unwavering support to one another. She incorporates native flowers from the St. Lawrence Valley to pay homage to the people who inhabited these lands long before the arrival of settlers.

Each of these flowers carries deep symbolic meaning and honors the rich history of the original inhabitants of the St. Lawrence Valley, highlighting their enduring cultural and natural connections to this land. “Ensemble” is not just a word; it is the pulse of thriving communities, where collective effort and kindness are the cornerstones James Duncan’s historic painting serves as the cornerstone of the mural, a powerful tribute to the pioneers who laid the foundation for Saint Genevieve. Duncan’s masterpiece captures the essence of their resilience and determination as they settled into this new territory. It is a visual tribute to their enduring legacy, ensuring that the memory of Sainte Genevieve’s early settlers remains alive and vibrant for generations to come.

This mural is located in the context of the redevelopment of the L’Île-Bizard–Sainte-Geneviève district in the heart of the new local park in order to put the final touch on the revitalization of this new space.
