Artwork description
This new mural was created in the summer of 2023 by the MU organization and artist Borrris. It aims to improve the appearance of the Francis-Bouillon arena, a symbolic place for neighborhood residents. Art being a vehicle for social transformation for places and communities, this mural is an important marker of the borough’s cultural heritage and involves neighborhood residents in the creative process.
In addition to the mural, cultural mediation activities were organized with the Hochelaga Community Center (CCH). The local community was approached to inform and invite citizens to participate in cultural activities in Raymond-Préfontaine Park. Teenagers were invited to meet the artist to discover his work and participate in the ideation of the artwork (reflecting on the theme of movement and how this theme translates into their lives). This citizen participation allows teenagers to be part of the cultural effervescence of their neighborhood and to develop their cultural citizenship. It is through these conversations that art in public spaces creates encounters, exchanges, curiosity, and a sense of belonging to one’s living environment.
