Polygones, polyglottes
2020
Bosny

Through my work, I seek to create an element of surprise for viewers, prompting them to pause and reflect. I particularly enjoy creating images that appear different when viewed up close versus from a distance. This allows those who encounter the work regularly and up close to gain a unique perspective on it.

By exploring new technical avenues and blending different practices—from printmaking to papermaking and mural art, I aim to challenge people’s preconceptions and remind them that the world around us, too, can be different and can be transformed.

MSHL

Originally from Rennes, now living in Montreal since 2009, Mshl, pronounced Michel, has been practicing graffiti for over 25 years. In Quebec, he has expanded his research and given more space to abstraction in his practice. He participates in various exhibitions in Montreal and creates large-scale works in Montreal’s public spaces. Alternating between geometric and organic forms, Mshl plays with spaces, alignments, and colors (blue is never far away) to achieve a composition that tends toward balance.

Since 2017, with MU, he has been offering workshops in schools and assisting numerous muralists while continuing his own artistic research. In parallel with painting, he has been experimenting with video since 2013. He has received several awards that have given him the opportunity to show his films projected on the walls of Montreal and at the famous Fantasia Festival in Montreal.

Artwork description

The artwork *Polygones, polyglottes*, created by bosny and MSHL, highlights the richness and diversity of the residents and commuters passing through the nearby Saint-Michel metro station. The artists sought to represent the ties and connections between this diverse group of people through an assemblage of richly colored shapes that seem to fit together despite their differences. Anonymous faces can be discerned in certain patches of color, allowing for a dual interpretation of the mural. From a distance, faces can be made out and the colorful shapes appear connected; up close, the faces become abstract and the shapes stand out individually.
