Le vieil homme et l’enfant
2025
Ben Caillous

After studying 2D animation and earning a bachelor’s degree in art, he worked for several years in studios, notably at graphic design agencies and mobile app studios. However, his desire to devote himself fully to painting never left him.

Developing a unique universe, Ben Caillous creates works in which small characters with orange noses convey positive, intergenerational messages. Influenced by his references in comics and animation, he seeks to express emotions and bring out the “inner child” present in all of us, integrating it into the heart of his artistic approach.

While Ben Caillous primarily paints on canvas, he has also begun exploring murals—a practice that is still new to him but one that particularly fascinates him. He mainly uses brushes and rollers for his murals, setting aside spray paint to maintain a detailed, artisanal style. Constantly evolving, his work highlights the importance of optimism and joy, which he strives to convey through his creations.

Artwork description

Ben Caillous presents a tender and universal scene: an elderly man (grandpa) carries a child on his shoulders, moving with ease and lightness.

This simple yet deeply meaningful image evokes the strength of intergenerational bonds, the tenderness of everyday gestures, and the beauty of relationships built on trust and sharing.

The elderly man embodies memory, stability, and the desire to pass on knowledge. The child, meanwhile, gazes at the horizon with curiosity: he symbolizes the future, hope, and the energy of Hochelaga’s youth.

The elements surrounding them—flowers, paper airplanes—reinforce this idea of vitality and collective movement. They remind us that growing up also means being supported by a caring community.
