Artwork description

The mural was created by an internationally renowned urban artist Seth (Julien Malland), visiting Montreal especially for this project.

Inspired by the past, Seth likes to weave the history of the area into the narrative of his work. For the last eight years, the theme of the murals in the borough has been the convergence of cultures and what is more, the location of the mural — at habitations Saint-Grégoire — marks the entrance of the St-Michel neighborhood. Seth has thus chosen to depict two children of different origins, running towards each other with their faces – which aren’t visible – merging into one another, an image consistent with his artistic process. The two characters come together to complement one another : a young lady searching for a new home – represented by her brick dress – and a young man, a dreamer, eager to discover the world – symbolized by the sky.

It was the first time that MU invited a foreign street art artist with such international recognition. His aesthetic style and approach have a unifying quality that are in line with MU’s philosophy : murals that resonate with everyone and that are echoed in our collective imagination.
