Cyndie Belhumeur

Cyndie Belhumeur mix in the same painting geometric and organic shapes and overlay effects of vivid colors. Her artistic practice is exercised in parallel with illustration and graphic design. She realized her first major mural with MU in 2015 after learning the basics of mural art as an assistant-muralist in 2014.

Marquis MC

Born in 1983, Marie-Claude Marquis is a visual artist whose multidisciplinary practice combines visual arts and graphic design. Her work focuses on nostalgia, everyday life, pop culture and her own emotions, which she expresses with her feminine touch and colorful sensibility.
With several exhibitions to her credit in Canada, the United States and Europe, each new project is a challenge she relishes.

In her work, the artist is particularly fond of reappropriating antique objects through hand-lettered interventions. Using antiques is very important to her, as it allows her to give them a 2nd life, prolong their existence and reduce her own environmental impact. Graphic, spatial and pattern design are also an important part of her artistic practice.
The result of this mix is often humorous, sometimes daring, but always with an eye to aesthetics.

Artwork description

The mural was created by artists Beige Fluo (Cyndie Belhumeur) and MC Marquis, in collaboration with the Fondation pour la langue française. This large-scale community mural is part of a 3-mural project, which will focus on the learning of the French language by newcomers to Quebec.

CONNEXION is the third mural in our triptych. In partnership with the Fondation pour la langue française, this mural contributes to the revitalization of this specific area, located in the heart of the Parc-Extension district, close to a busy thoroughfare, Jean-Talon Street, on the outskirts of Mile-Ex and very close to the MIL Campus of the Université de Montréal.

It symbolizes the conclusion of this process, highlighting the precious bonds forged between learners and their new environment. In addition to the mural, children’s games were designed by the two artists and painted on the ground by the MU team. In keeping with the mural, the artists drew on the ideas of the children living in the homes to create games that symbolize connection.
