Artwork description
This mural was created by French artist Seth, in collaboration with the Belz community school on Laurier Street West, SDC Laurier Ouest, the Plateau-Mont-Royal borough, the City of Montreal, the Quebec government and the French Consulate General in Montreal.
This work was created in the heart of the Plateau-Mont-Royal borough, on the site of a school for young girls belonging to the Belz Hasidic community. It continues the process of revitalizing the area, while forging links between two Montreal communities seeking to better cohabit. It fosters citizen interaction and becomes a potential meeting point for Montreal residents of diverse origins, including the Hasidic Jewish community. These exchanges encourage inter-community dialogue, strengthening social ties across the city and reinforcing a shared sense of belonging. With an immense background as a committed artist and an ability to forge links between different communities, artist Seth is committed to the universalism of children.
A true globetrotter, he is the instigator of the “Back to School!” project of murals committed to education, an initiative that aims to increase the value and significance of schools by presenting children with a monumental work of art. This adds fantasy and dreams to their minds, and marks the school at the heart of its neighborhood, its city. This new mural is part of a world-renowned collection, and will therefore enjoy an international reputation.
This project has been made possible thanks to the financial support of the Government of Quebec and the City of Montreal, as part of the Entente de développement culturel de Montréal.
