Holding a degree in architecture from Université Laval, Ilana Pichon has received several awards and has taken part in various exhibits and artist-in-residence programs. She created her first large-scale mural with MU in 2015.
The mural was financed by the City of Pointe-Claire. The project was spearheaded by the Stewart Hall Art Gallery with the support of the Pointe-Claire Public Art Committee in partnership with the Agence métropolitaine de transport (AMT).
The City of Pointe-Claire called upon the services of the MU organization to create a mural at the entrance of the Valois station pedestrian tunnel linking the north and south platforms. Launched after a call for proposals, the mural was intended to explore the theme of transportation while highlighting the history of Pointe-Claire, whose development is directly related to the changing means of transportation. L’empreinte de l’homme, by artist Ilana Pichon, uses a graphic design on the tunnel entrance, giving it a unique visual identity in an urban setting. The three-part mural tells the story of human influence on the landscape: the first part represents our impact on the surrounding geography, the second moves at a slower pace to depict the notion of multiple interactions, while the third presents graphic elements based on the artist’s viewpoint of five means of transportation.
