Ella & Pitr
Natives of Saint-Étienne, France, Ella & Pitr are two artists, known collectively as the “Papiers Peintres”, or paper-painters. Ella Besnaïnou and Loïc Niwa (their real names), have created a concept that has become increasingly recognized in the world of urban art: Giants peacefully sleeping on city rooftops around the world—in Europe, South America and Canada. The crouching, sleeping colossuses they draw on oversized murals seem ready to awaken at any time.
In 2013, Ella & Pitr began to paint horizontally instead of vertically, with the aim of changing the point of view we use to look at our environment. They hold the record for the largest mural ever created, 21,000 square metres, painted on hangars in Klepp, in southern Norway.
