Begin your visit to the Quartier international de Montréal at the Palais des congrès, the city’s impressive conference centre whose walls incorporate several bold works of art.

Before entering the underground tunnel leading to the main floor of the Jacques-Parizeau building, pause at Place Jean-Paul-Riopelle, an urban forest named for the internationally acclaimed artist whose famous fountain sculpture La Joute graces the square. From this vantage point, you have an excellent view of the stained glass art piece Translucide and the multicoloured glass facade of the Palais. The World Trade Centre Montréal houses two elements of historic interest: a remnant of the Berlin Wall and an 18th-century stone fountain atop which sits a statue of Amphitrite.

Finally, take a moment to sit and relax on a bench at Square Victoria, a prominent place where the city’s past and present meld together amid peaceful waters and leafy trees.
