  • 1000 de la Gauchetière
  • McCord Museum

This walking tour is for lovers of art and architecture. In this remarkable area, the site of two centuries of urban architecture, you can discover sixteen public art works.

The tour begins on a heritage site comprised of Place du Canada and Dorchester Square. Surrounded by some of Montréal’s tallest buildings, here you will find monuments commemorating Canada’s history, its anglophone and francophone communities.

Then, walk along René-Lévesque Boulevard, and stop at the Place Ville-Marie esplanade. In addition to discovering two sculptures there, you will have a magnificent view of the former Golden Square Mile, Mount Royal and the McGill University campus. Next, you can make your way to the campus and the mountain. To do so, take the staircase connecting the Place Ville-Marie esplanade to McGill College Avenue. This prestigious street, which will become part of the Promenade Fleuve-Montagne in 2017, will lead you to the campus. Keep your eyes peeled: Some things on McGill College Avenue will surprise you.

The final part of the walk takes you through the green space of the McGill campus. After passing through the colonnade of the Roddick Gates, of classical Greek inspiration, you can admire six different public art works, as well as the various architectural styles of the buildings on the campus. Finally, why not complete this walk by discovering the two pieces outside the McCord Museum, Montréal’s social history museum?
