Artwork description
The assembly of glass blocks covered in orange, green or white film forms an abstract, geometric piece in which rectangles and small and large squares alternate. These right-angle shapes are hollow cast. The material offers a distinct advantage. While the colours are opaque on the outside, making them very visible, from the inside they are translucent, providing soft light to the staircases, one of which leads from the ground floor to the roof.
This type of coloured cast glass block is a recent art material. Its use was part of the revival of stained glass in the early 1960s. Innovative stained glass was tinted, luminous and resistant to climate, qualities sought after by modern architects. This adds to the interest of this diptych, in addition its abstract, geometric aesthetic, which is also a recent aspect of public art.
