Everything is a question of funk, style and monsters for Astro—a Montréal graffiti artist. He started painting in the mid-1990s and developed a highly distinctive style, creating his own world, filled with funky lettering and strange creatures. His inspirations range from old-school New York graffiti, to European and Japanese cartoons. In addition to graffiti, he creates paintings and illustrations for various clients.

Artwork description
In 2009, the Verdun borough’s planning department developed a beautification plan based on the installation of murals. Twelve sites were identified for this purpose. One of the results was the MU’s first mural in the borough, Le Marais (a collaboration between Roadsworth and Phil Allard), installed in 2011. The benefits of this first project encouraged the partners to continue collaborating; Tropical d’Astro is MU’s fifth mural in this effort.
Located in a neighbourhood identified as a “detailed planning sector” by the municipal urban plan, this mural is one of a group of initiatives by OPA (Opération Populaire d’Aménagement) to rehabilitate the neighbourhood. The mural has beautified the area, adding new colours to the landscape.
