A multidisciplinary artist born in Manawan, Meky Ottawa uses video, illustration and installation as mediums to deal with topics specific to Aboriginal worlds. In 2016, she was chosen to participate in the NFB’s creative media arts laboratory, Déranger. Then, in 2017, she became known as part of the Montreal Aboriginal Museum’s LES ELISES aboriginal project with her immersive installation Kushapetshekan / Kosapitcikan – Épier l’autre monde, produced in collaboration with Eruoma Awashish and Jani Bellefleur-Kaltush.

This mural was created by artists Meky Ottawa and Manon Bedard, and produced with the help of muralists Kaia’tanoron Dumoulin-Bush, Melissa Del Pinto and Diane Roe. Nehirowisiw – Equilibre pays homage to the nature that surrounds us, but above all wants to make us aware of the fragility of the balance of our ecosystem. The little twinkling lights on the water represent children, awacic. These young generations who claim to protect our territory, take care of our water and preserve all the species that inhabit it. Nehirowisiw – Equilibre is the first of 3 murals that were created this year through the MUrelles project.
