Josée Pedneault lives and works in Montréal. She completed her Masters in Fine Arts at Concordia University in 2005. Her visual strategies begin with photos, videos, objects, drawings and found images, often leading to ideas that take the theme of the existential quest. Travel and wandering are central to her artistic exploration and her reflections on the human experience: our hopes and the disillusionment they bring, our utopias, our failures and our broken dreams. Her work has been exhibited in several countries, notably Canada, France, Poland, China, Cambodia and Luxembourg.
Artwork description
This artwork depicts a horizontal superimposition of leaves of urban and wild plants reproduced on a very large scale, progressing from dark tones at the bottom to lighter shades at the top. Growing in open spaces or between concrete cracks, these plants evoke the history and folklore of the Outremont neighbourhood; they become, in the work, the imaginary geological strata of the soil.
Did you know?
The plants collected by the artist have been digitized like a photographic negative. Through this process, light passes through the leaves, revealing their organic structure.
